Upscaling

Rewilding Velebit Foundation is dedicated to nature conservation on Velebit in accordance to rewilding principles, and we would like to see others adopt this innovative approach to make Croatia’s land and sea wilder.

Through various activities of informing and educating, we promote the benefits of wild nature and encourage others to adopt rewilding as a new and effective approach to nature conservation, for the benefit of people. Communication and marketing, networking, collaboration with partners, and scientific work play a key role in this process of expansion. For this purpose, we have developed and regularly use a range of tools and activities.

Partnerships are crucial for expanding our work and for the ultimate success of rewilding both in Croatia and in Europe. We invest time and effort in developing effective partnerships with various entities in the field of nature protection and science at national and local levels, which helps build momentum and progress in the rewilding process.

Nature conservation work over the last 30 years in Europe and beyond has shown that efforts focused solely on protecting existing nature are simply not enough. We believe that large-scale nature recovery – based on the principles of rewilding – should be a key priority in EU and Croatian policy. The European Commission should develop legislation that genuinely encourages large-scale landscape restoration and ensures the connectivity of ecosystems vital for biodiversity and climate stabilization.

Rewilding Europe works with a range of partners at the European level to influence policy and create space for rewilding at European and national levels, all with the aim of strengthening the EU restoration agenda.
