Almost 10% of the total amount of carbon dioxide sequestered annually in Croatian forests is stored in the Velebit mountains. It could be even more—it would be enough to change the economic management practices for thickets and shrubs, according to our expert associates.

Zavratnica Cove and the town of Jablanac have gained a new digital dimension – anyone can now check sea quality online in real-time, thanks to satellite imagery and AI-based analysis.

The Emperor Fir tree is the largest common fir tree in Europe, standing at 42.5 meters tall with a circumference of 5.42 meters. Its health was deteriorating due to dry and rotten branches, while a parasitic plant threatened its long-term vitality. Sanitation work has been carried out to preserve it, ensuring its health for generations to come.

We are very proud – our wildlife and nature conservation workshop programme, which now in its fourth year, has surpassed the milestone of 1000 young participants. While we are happy to have raised awareness of the importance of preserving Velebit among such a large number of children, we are aslo looking forward to new encounters.

Every year, humans intentionally leave tons of lead in nature by using it as a common material in ammunition, endangering humans, animals, water, and soil. It’s time to stop this harmful and unnecessary practice!

We have released does and stags this autumn, for the first time it was outside our rewilding grounds, initiating direct cooperation with the managers of neighboring areas and impacting the broader Velebit region.

It is now five decades since the first chamois were reintroduced in the Velebit area, and the speies has been continuously present here ever since. While the chamois population in Velebit is gradually increasing, there is room and reason to increase numbers further, as well as increasing the amount of habitat that could support this iconic and ecologically important animal.
